Parents and Students,

While our overarching study in our Bible class this year is the beginning and development of the early church, our spring semester will now focus specifically on several of the epistles Paul wrote to the churches.   Galatians is the first letter our class has been studying.  Within this epistle to the believers in the province of Galatia resides a Scripture passage best known as ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’. 

 

Galatians 5:22-23 (New Living Translation – NLT)

      But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness

gentleness, and self-control.  There is no law against these things! 

 

 

To grasp the relevance and personal application that can be drawn from this portion of Scripture, our students will be given one 'Spirit' quality 

and . . .

Complete a 1 page Research Synopsis

Write a 1 -2 page research paper (using the Research Synopsis as 

a guide for the information required in the research paper)

Prepare a 5-10 minute oral presentation based on their research 

(including the artistic expression of the student's 'Spirit' quality)

Memorize Galatians 5:22-23 (New Living Translation - NLT)

Weeks: January 25 and February 1, 2016

Class time will be devoted to discussing the scope and content of the research synopsis sheet, the research paper and oral presentation, providing ample computer time for research, and understanding the grading rubric, for the components of this project.

A 5 – 10 minute oral presentation (including the artistic expression component) will be given, in class 

 

The intent of this research project is for each student to achieve a more in-depth understanding of this Biblical truth, and because of the very significant personal application that can be extracted from these verses, it can be a powerful and meaningful time well spent in the lifelong spiritual development of each student.

 Conjunctions help to provide a more natural flow and rhythm in writing.  We will discuss each type of conjunction and the important role they play.  Each student will write a short essay integrating these type of conjunctions into their essay.

As we return to school on Tuesday, January 19, after our Monday holiday, our   final section of study in the Epistle to the Galatians will focus on the ‘Fruit of the Spirit’ (Gal. 5:22-23).  An overview of our study will include:

2.    GALA Homeroom Grade 6 – 8 Class Project

Every year each homeroom designs a class project to

be in the silent auction.  This year our class has selected

to take a class photograph with a very creative design.

The details on this project are outlined in my email which includes an attachment of the design.

This week our focus will be on interjections.  We will discuss how interjections have no grammatical purpose (meaning they do not join, modify or replace).  Interjections do not participate in relationships with other parts of speech.  We will complete several exercises and diagram sentences that have interjections.

As we continue our study in the Book of Galatians, we will finish our chart on the false teaching of the gospel by the Judaizers and Paul's defense of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Monday we will be reviewing the adjective, noun and verb exercise we completed on Friday .  We will be discussing the words we identified in this exercise and talking about their meaning, part of speech, and etymology.  The rest of the week we will focus in depth on adverbs in our grammar study and writing.  We will construct and write an essay that will focus on the important functions of an adverb, use strong adverbs and avoid overuse of specific adverbs.

Keeping In Touch - January 4 - 8, 2016

As we return to school on Monday, January 4, we begin a:

We will review over the work we have done on regular and irregular verbs.  Continuing to work on the eight observations (nine in some cases) of verbs:

We will be focusing on our four level analysis and working on punctuation at each level.  

During our Fall semester, we studied Paul's missionary journeys. For our Spring semester, we will be looking at several of the epistles (letters) the Apostle Paul wrote to the early churches.  Each epistle has a distinct focus.  During the month of January, our attention will be centered on the epistle or letter to the Galatians.
