Physics September 28 - October 4, 2015

For Metric Monday, we will measure length in meters, centimeters, and millimeters then use the information to create each individual's "Official Metric Identity" card.  This week we will focus on height, arm span, hand span (R & L), foot length (R&L).  This should be fun!

We will continue to discuss Newton's Three Laws of Motion and identify real-life examples.  This week we will observe potential and kinetic energy and experiment with odds-and-ends (spools, rubber  bands, toy cars, Popsicle sticks...)

It is time to get serious about this marble roller coaster project.  I will make team assignments, give you a project planning worksheet, and we will get started!

Physics September 21 - 25, 2015

On "Metric Monday" we will practice the scientific method and conduct a volume lab:  liquid, solid, and irregular object using the terms Liter (L), milliliter (mL) and cm3.

On Tuesday, you will have a vocabulary test.  This week we will learn about vectors, magnitude, and scalars as well as potential energy and kinetic energy.

Your Challenge:  Brainstorm ways to create a model of a roller coaster using foam pipe insulation tubes and marbles.

Physics Note to Parents and Students

Physics September 7-11, 2015

This week we will work through the scientific method - from start to finish!  Students were given toy cars, cardboard, felt, aluminum foil as well as access to supplies available in the lab.  As teams, you decided on a "question" to investigate using these tools.  On Tuesday, you will finish up your projects and write up lab reports.  I saw lots of ramps, calculators, meter tapes and good old- fashioned ingenuity!  Vocabulary words this week are all related to the scientific method:
testable question, hypothesis, variable, independent variable, dependent variable, data, analysis, conclusion, communication

ELA 9/7-9/11

This week we will be working on identifying prepositional phrases, appositive phrases, verbal phrases, and gerund phrases. We will continue working on "Time Traveling" essay.
