Physics February 29 - March 4, 2016
We will continue learning about the physics of light and sound (now that we know all about waves and electromagnetic radiation!) and experiment with prisms and tuning forks. Remember that you will take a test on Friday about "waves" - you have the study sheet already.

Bible ~ Ms. Kirk ~ February 29 - March 4, 2016
As we have begun our study on 1 & 2 Thessalonians, we will continue broadening our understanding of these epistles,
over the next couple of weeks, by focusing on:
-
Biblical/Historical
Overview (Theme/Purpose of epistles)
- Geographical Overview (Paul’s 2nd missionary journey)
- Scriptural Overview (1 Thessalonians 1)
ELA ~ Ms. Kirk ~ February 29 - March 4, 2016
Grammar
This week we will continue to work
with
adverbs and adjectives becoming weak modifiers. Each student will
replace weak modifiers with strong and specific vocabulary words. We
will continue our group discussion about weak modifiers not providing
useful
information and becoming confusing and open to interpretation.
Composition
Each student chose a type of essay (narrative, expository, persuasive, descriptive) and will be completing the essay this week. Then they will be reading over what they wrote and editing it before submitting their final essay.

Bible ~ Ms. Kirk ~ February 22 - 26, 2016
This week we will continue our study on Paul's letters to the early
church. Our new unit will focus on 1 & 2 Thessalonians. Since each
chapter of 1 Thessalonians contains a reference to Christ's second
coming/return, our key Scripture verse will be:
1 Thessalonians 1:10 (New Living Translation)
'And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God's Son from
heaven-Jesus, whom God raised from the dead.' (Please memorize)
1 Thessalonians 1:10 (New Living Translation)

heaven-Jesus, whom God raised from the dead.' (Please memorize)
ELA ~ Ms. Kirk ~ February 22 - 26, 2016
This week we will finish working on our verbisections exercise. We have
been working with verbs and making observations about how the verb is
used in the sentence. Later in the week, we will begin to work with
adverbs and adjectives. Each student will construct a short essay and
monitor if they are using weak modifiers such as very, long, little,
slowly, greatly, etc. These weak modifiers do not provide useful
information and can be confusing and open to interpretation. When using
modifiers, each student needs to ask himself/herself if you are using
too many. With this essay, each student will be encouraged to use strong
and specific vocabulary.

Physics February 15 - 19, 2016
This week we will learn about waves (an energy transport system) so first we will need to define some very important terms:
oscillate
amplitude
compression
crest
electromagnetic waves
frequency
longitudinal wave
mechanical wave
medium
transverse wave
trough
wavelength
hertz
vacuum
Students need to come to class prepared - notebook, pencil, and homework!!

This week we will be studying and discussing the three moods tenses can appear in:
indicative, imperative and subjunctive.
We will talk about how the mood shows the writer’s attitude toward what
she/he is saying. Each student will construct several sentences that use
each of these moods.
Later in the week, the students will learn how mood is only one of many verb properties.
We will go over tense, aspect and voice

Physics February 1 - 5, 2016
This week we are learning about batteries - how do they work? What is the chemical energy that is necessary for the electricity to be generated? We plan to create various batteries, such as a lemon battery and a potato battery.
