It's  Catapult Week! This week each team will launch the catapult that you have researched, designed, and redesigned!  We need to come up with a launch plan that everyone agrees on.  You have all done a fantastic job, and we will celebrate your creativity and problem-solving skills.  The next step to this project is a written report that will explain the use of Newton's Three Laws of Motion.  We will decide together the expectations for the written report, which will be due on Friday, November 7.

Keeping In Touch - October 19-23, 2015

October 19-23, 2015

 Persecuted Church Project

The overarching study, in our Bible class, this year, is the beginning and development of the early church, primarily based on the books of Acts.  In our class discussions, we learned that one of the factors, the early church experienced was persecution, for their faith.  The 21st century church is not exempt.  Around the world, Christians are still being persecuted for their belief in Christ.

To better understand, the persecution of the church, each student, will be writing a research paper and giving an oral presentation in class.  I will be sending home a letter that will provide more details about this important project.

This will be a meaningful unit of study to increase our knowledge and awareness of those who suffer, in the name of Christ.  As the Apostle Paul said, in 1 Corinthians 12:26, 'We are one body. . . if one part suffers, every part suffers with it.'

Thoughtfully,
Ms. Kirk

Physics October 19-23, 2015

This week we will complete the  Metric Identity project: calculate the area of each hand and foot (using graph paper), the volume of each fist (using displacement) and measure mass (using a kg scale).  This data will be compiled individually then used to create a class comparison.

We will study the physics of a catapult then design and test various models made from simple materials.

On Friday, October 23, you will have a test on metric measurement.  You should know the terms, symbol, and unit of measure.

Fluid Volume. (milliliter, liter,)
Solid Volume (cubic centimeter)

Mass (milligrams,grams, kilograms, tonnes)

Length (millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer)

Temperature (degrees Celsius)
